Driver Who Ploughed Into Crowd Says He Saw Demons

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 23) - A man suspected of killing two tourists and injuring 12 others on the Las Vegas Strip told police he steered his car into the crowd on the sidewalk because they were staring at him like demons.

Stephen M. Ressa, 27, also told police he saw people with their hands in their pockets and thought they might be armed with guns, according to an arrest report obtained Friday by The Associated Press.

"They were staring at him like they were `demons,"' the report said. "Ressa admitted he became angry at them, and intentionally steered the vehicle toward them."

Ressa, of Rialto, Calif., was arrested Wednesday evening shortly after the car barreled through the crowd and crashed into a cement barrier in front of Bally's hotel-casino. He remained jailed without bail on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

During two interviews with police, Ressa told detectives he had borrowed his mother's car and drove to Las Vegas, where he spent a few days gambling at various casinos and slept in the car.

Although Ressa told police he had a drug and alcohol problem, he said he had used neither Wednesday. He told police he had been prescribed medication, but had stopped taking it.

Well he obviously has significant issues. We should mandate a session with a good Counselor, give him a good scolding about not taking his meds, make him role play his decision not to take his meds, write a 500 word essay on what can happen when you stop taking your meds and send him back to his loving family where he can receive the support, love and nurturing that will validate him and give him an enhanced sense of his own worth and value as a human being. :)

I do wonder what some of the VICTIMS family members and loved ones would say about that suggestion? Since their loved one(s) are now dead and will either be cremated or buried to begin their decaying process, they might not really care a great deal about his so called mental illness? It is really a shame that the results of MURDER from a so called MENTALLY ILL person are EXACTLY the same as a MURDER from a CRIMINAL..

I was just being a smart-ass. As I stated in the "Hinkley" thread, I don't care whether the murderer is mentally ill, or committed a single "crime of passion"....I don't care. The victim doesn't get a second chance, so the murderer shouldn't either.

I would like to share something personal here. I had a member of my extended family, a second cousin, who was executed by a state back in the late 90s. He was a confirmed schizophrenic and placed on medications. He DECIDED to stop taking his meds on his own. Starting on week 2 of that decision he went out and murdered 5 people within two hours. He was convicted of capital murder, 5 counts. It took 15 years for him to go through the appeals process and be executed. His parents screamed like bloody animals that he was sick and should be spared. HE DECIDED TO QUIT TAKING HIS MEDS. HE DECIDED TO KILL 5 PEOPLE. The families of those 5 people WILL NEVER see their loved ones again on this earth. Two of the victims had small children to raise. My second cousin was a criminal and an animal and deserved to be put down. One thing about it now, HE WILL NOT kill one of your loved ones.
