The Train Whistles For Me

The train whistles for me each night
after my prayers, before slumber
becomes me,

And Im then taken to spheres and places unknown
Some awful, some sad, some alluring
Some beckon in song
always to end, upon dawn breaking in Light.

As a boy, my house neared the rails
I heard them daily and nightly as well
somehow they console me, they sing
and old song

That went with the wonder
of boyhood once upon
Some find them brassy, not I
No not I...

For me the whistle is angelic
accapella in the sky
the whistle blows, I'm in the park
My small Dog Taffy & I

Or it signaled my playtime
had come to an end
all I know is the train passes
every night just past midnight

It bids me well, and yells hello Rod
And I sigh, and always think
One day I shall pay tribute in pen
to the call of the whistle
my boyhood friend,

And still now.

it is a very simple piece
I never edit nor add, it was simply
a small tribute I wanted to
assign to the train, the whistle
the memories, it provokes each night that I hear it
like a very long old friend.
I just have been, felt compelled each night
to pen it to ink
So now I have done it
I now can let go of the gnawing
urging,that calls me to paper
whenever the whistle blows.

The train, the whistle, the memories evoked, all part of the thread and rhythm of the Bard's life.

Nostalgic, warming and reassuring.

Thanks, Bard.

No, thank you Calli, such a blessing in words.
How very lovely of you. Such a reward,
For such a very simple composition.

Ty NG for taking the time brother.

Looking pretty "spiffy" Skippy!

Doesn't that sound old fashioned to the nth degree?

For your edification and pleasure....listen to the jingle, the rumble and the roar...
The rhythm of the rails, hypnotic, the far places the train will take you romatic...adventure just down that road of rails.

Thank you so very much Calli,
I adore the fact that I seldom lay in bed at night
and not hear the train a coming,
the the siren like whistle alerting,
the flash of lightning, and im fifty years back in time.
It's an amazing feeling,
as I'm cradled and comforted
in the call of the train....
as I salute him as he calls out to me
My rest turns to nightfall
and time becomes sleep
in the palm of its image & call,
My old friend...the trains of my childhood
and adulthood alike... I salute &
and bid thee a gratefull goodnite..

Calli,

Funny Last night I did not fall asleep till 5 AM
But the wonderous thing was,
I was serenaded by 5 or six trains,
MORE than ever before, each whistle differing
the wheels in power plouging there way down
the tracks leaving a sound, words cannot churn.
It was like a meteor shower...
after i had just been paying homage to this thread :happy
