I believe that line is the indication that the post is finished. Below the line is the sigline area, so as not to confuse the masses that the text below it, is part of the post, but rather is the signature of the poster. :happy And my dear the centering has nothing to do with 'edge', it has everything to do with 'balance'.

You haven't lost either, let me assure you of that.

In fact I think you've gained quite a bit of both. :thumbsup

It is normal dear, to have the line there is normal. It let's people know that the text above it is the post, it is very normal, because you see, Most people Do Not Center all of their posts, and the text then is aligned as in most of the english language to the Left. See? It's simple, the world is aligned to the left, so that means it would be quite normal that the line that is giving you such angst is to the Left.
