Volcanic ash blows across Antigua
Thursday September 22 2005
by Patricia Campbell
The strong smell of sulphur permeated the atmosphere in some parts of Antigua yesterday as prevailing winds brought clouds of volcanic ash across the island from neighbouring Montserrat.
Local meteorologist Lorne Salmon told the SUN there has been increased activity in Montserrat’s Lang Soufriere volcano.
This, he said, combined with prevailing winds blowing across Antigua from the southwest brought the clouds and resultant sulphuric odour across from Montserrat.
